In response to the ongoing controversy, Facebook announced that it would be updating its privacy settings in the near future. Chris Cox VP of Product Management at Facebook is looking forward to "drastically simplified" version of settings putting more control in the hands of the customer with regards to their information on Facebook.
Marc Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook admitted to some privacy missteps in his blog. http://blog.facebook.com/blog.php?post=391922327130
He wrote "The number one thing we've heard is that there just needs to be a simpler way to control your information. We've always offered a lot of controls, but if you find them too hard to use then you won't feel like you have control. Unless you feel in control, then you won't be comfortable sharing and our service will be less useful for you. We agree we need to improve this.
"The biggest message we have heard recently is that people want easier control over their information," he wrote. "Simply put, many of you thought our controls were too complex. Our intention was to give you lots of granular controls; but that may not have been what many of you wanted. We just missed the mark."
